Abstract
Formation of H3 and synthesis of NH3 on about 20 transition metal surfaces has been studied by pulsed-laser assisted field desorption in a pulsed-laser imaging atom-probe. The NH3 molecule is found to be formed from chemisorbed H and N atoms. The reactivity of these reactions depends on both the surface material and its structures.
