Abstract
Oxygen exchange reaction between Y2O3 and 18O2 was monitored with a microbalance. Analyzing data the near-surface diffusion coefficient and the surface-layer thickness were obtained. The nearsurface diffusion is 1-4 orders of magnitude faster than the oxygen lattice diffusion in the same system. The surface-layer thickness is similar to the thickness in m-ZrO2 and is slightly larger than that in NiO.
