Abstract
The electronic properties of polycrystalline FexCo1-x have been investigated experimentally using ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy and magneto-optical spectroscopy. Results are discussed in terms of spin polarized band structure calculations (KKR-CPA) performed for a series of disordered bcc FexCo1-x alloys. A dominating peak in the UPS spectra centered between 1.35 eV and 1.1 eV binding energy for different compositions clearly correlates with a strong feature in the polar Kerr rotation with a maximum value of θK = 0.55° at hv = 1.5 eV. This feature is attributed to excitations of majority d-states.
