Abstract
The tetragonal compounds DyRu2X2 (X = Si and X = Ge) have been studied by 161Dy Mössbauer spectroscopy between 4.2 K and 63 K. Hyperfine parameters deduced from these studies are similar for the two compounds. Bhf values at 4.2 K imply a magnetic moment around 10 µB, thus the electronic ground state of Dy ions is close to |15/2), as in most of Dy intermetallic compounds. The quadrupole interactions are smaller than in the free ion and are in good agreement with calculated electric field gradient values for Ru charges.
