Abstract
A few of the current difficulties associated with first order phase transformations are reviewed in the context of the facilities offered by fine scale microanalytical techniques. The aim is to stimulate cooperation between those who are experts in field ion microscopy and associated techniques, and others involved in the modelling of phase transformations and microstructures.
