Abstract
Compositionally modulated amorphous FeTb/SiO films show a strongly enhanced magnetic Kerr rotation. A Kerr rotation angle of more than 25 degrees has been observed for the sample composed of bilayers of 100 Å FeTb/150 Å SiO and a 650 Å SiO protective layer. Calculations have demonstrated that the rotation angle runs up to 80 degrees for a film with precisely controlled layer thicknesses.
