Abstract
We report that <110>-oriented TiC and NbC single crystal tips produce highly stable field emission currents after the surface-processing. The surface-processing consists of the tip heating at 900-1100°C in the gas such as ethylene, oxygen or hydrogen sulfide, and the following continuous emission of about 10 µA for 30 minutes. The field emission patterns and the current stability were investigated in the clean and the surface-processed tips.
