Abstract
It has been recently observed, using the field emission method, that the dependence of the average work function of the sulfur deposition time on a nickel surface shows the poor reproducibility at intermediate coverages. In order to explain this phenomenon the following experimental conditions are investigated : temperature and time of the emitter cleaning, the procedure of the deposition and spreading of sulfur, temperature of sulfur spreading, and crystallographic orientations of the substrate emitter tip.
