Abstract
Grain boundaries in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 superconductor were examined by transmission electron microscopy and resistivity measurement. The former showed that [001] - twist boundaries were abundant in specimens prepared by the solid state reaction method. Coincidence orientation boundaries such as Σ13 and Σ17 were frequently observed. In order to characterize the boundary electrically, [001] - twist bicrystals were prepared by sintering of two single crystal sheets. The currentvoltage measurement revealed that a large shoulder appeared in the bicrystal specimen suggesting a weak coupling of the grain boundary.
