Abstract
Time-differential measurements of Auger electrons from C-, N- and O-recoil ions originating from dissociation of molecules after heavy-ion impact has been made. Using light molecules (CH4, NH3 and H2O), high-resolution measurements of three- and four-electron states are achieved. Selectively populated states are seen in delayed spectra, indicating electron capture. Time-structure analysis of the (1s2s2p)4 P0 → (1s2)1 S+e- transition separates finestructure components. Using heavier molecules (two or more heavy centers), molecular dissociation is studied by means of line broadening of the 4P0 line ('Coulomb explosion'). Two examples (CO2 and N2O) involving 'double' dissociation are shown.
