Abstract
From magnetisation measurements on superconducting DyBa2Cu3O7-x and GdBa2Cu3O7-x, we show that the average field penetration at the rare earth site is much lower than expected from Meissner effect estimates. This preferential field rejection is strongest in single crystals, where the rare earth magnetic ordering cannot be detected.
