Abstract
The epitaxial growth and the electronic and magnetic properties of bcc-Fe on Ag(100) and fcc-Co on Cu(100) have been investigated. Both systems are found to be ferromagnetic, with a strong thickness dependence of the Curie temperature. The dramatic change of the magnetic behaviour in the monolayer range is not caused by changes in the electronic structure, but due to the loss of the long range magnetic order above TC.
