Abstract
We have used three kinds of field emission microscopy : field electron, field ion and field desorption microscopy for investigation of thermofield phenomena such as : surface selfdiffusion and crystal growth in electrical field, high temperature field evaporation and cases when all these processes occur simultaneously. The thermofield microprotrusions from tungsten and molildenum were visualized in situ by field desorption, and their localization on vertices and edges of faceted points, their mobility and some other instability features were revealed. The obtaining equilibrium shapes for which the expansion by means of field strength was compensated by pressure of surface tension forces was analysed. To obtain such shapes experimentally is rather easy for field built-up crystals and appreciably complicated for thermofield microprotrusions. However, such microprotrusion equilibrated shapes for tungsten were obtained and a surface tension coefficients for them were determined.
