Abstract
We have studied the behaviour of an Al-Li alloy (8090) to pitting corrosion and exfoliation as a function of ageing temperature. Three methods have been employed : 1) visual estimation using EXCO-test (ASTM recommandations), 2) potential-solution level measurements in EXCO, CH3OH/CC14, CH3OH/CCl4/CuCl2 and NaCl/H2O2 solutions, 3) stress corrosion cracking by slow strain rate method. Correlation has been found between these methods, especially in the ageing temperatures range 125° to 190°C.
