The segregation of chromium in steel is interested because chromium has a good anti-corrosion property. The objective of this study is to clarify the surface segregation of chromium atoms in a Fe-5at.%Cr alloy. There was no segregation in the bulk analysis of the specimen after solution treatment. However after tempering at 700°C surface segregation of chromium was observed. In (110), segregation was observed at the first layer. In (100) and (121), segregation was observed at the first two layers. In (111), segregation was observed within the surface three atomic layers. Those behaviors can be understood by the geometry of the atomic structure.
