ULTRASONIC VELOCITY NEAR THE MARTENSITIC TRANSFORMATION TEMPERATURE

Abstract
Single crystal specimens of γ'1-martensite and β1-austenite of Cu-Al-Ni alloy are prepared. The temperature dependence of the shear elastic constants of both phases is measured and found to be in good agreement with the prediction from a simple free energy model for the martensitic transformation.
