Abstract
The main types of martensite morphologies and martensite substructures in zirconium based alloys are characterized. The factors which control : the morphology ; substructure ; morphological transitions and substructural transitions are established. These factors were observed to be independent and consequently independent control of the morphology, substructure and correspondent transitions was achieved. This is of fundamental, and practical importance (e.g. control of the fracture toughness and brittle/ductile transition). The relationships : morphology/substructure and morphological/substructural transitions are discussed.
