SHAPE MEMORY EFFECT IN Cu-Al-Be TERNARY ALLOYS

Abstract
Changes in electrical resistivity, internal friction and Young's modulus with temperature have been examined on a series of beta-phase specimens in the hypoeutectoid region of the Cu-Al-Be ternary system. Existence of transformations from beta-phase to martensite phase on cooling and from martensite phase to beta-phase on heating was confirmed by the temperature changes in the properties. An empirical formula was derived on the relation between Ms-temperature and the content of the constitutional elements. Both one way and two way memory effects were realized in the specimens.
