Abstract
A roton in superfluid Helium can be described as a phonon self-trapped in a region possessing the translation symmetries of the metastable solid. This picture can account for various experimental data, such as the roton wavevector in bulk Helium II and Helium films, the temperature dependence of the roton gap, the roton-roton collision time.
