Abstract
This paper describes damping capacity and mechanical properties of Zn-8~20%Al and Zn-8~20%Al-0.02~0.04%Mg alloy castings. Zn-8~20%Al alloy castings show high damping when quenched from 573K. Small amount of Mg addition to these alloy castings lowers damping capacity considerably but effective to reduce decomposition through aging at 423K for 48hrs after water quenched from 573K. According to the results obtained in this investigation, the amount of Mg added should be less than 0.02%. Application of these alloy castings for attenuation are discussed.
