Abstract
Aging of TbFeCo films at temperatures below 250 °C causes preferential oxidation of the Tb atoms resulting in a decrease of compensation temperature, perpendicular anisotropy, and coercive energy density while the in-plane magnetization increases. By increasing the aging temperature above 250 °C, the films are completely oxidized within 15 hours resulting in a decrease of magnetization. At 350 °C the oxidized films begin to crystallize.
