Abstract
The orthorhombic phase in the mixed Jahn-Teller Ising system Dy (AsxV1-x) O4 has been studied by neutron scattering. For x < 0.99 a metastable domain state is observed, with Bragg peaks broadened by random strain fields. At 4.2 K the x = 0.95 sample had domain sizes ≈ 105, 230, and 170 Å before, during, and after application of an ordering field.
