COMPLEX FARADAY EFFECT IN Ce:YIG AT 8 K

Abstract
The first low temperature spectra of the Faraday rotation and MCD in cerium doped yttrium iron garnet are presented. The observed strong paramagnetic band induced by Ce3+ ions and centred at 1.41 eV is fairly temperature dependent and exhibits a pronounced splitting.
