Abstract
The coefficients of linear thermal expansion of single-crystalline samples of the tetragonal heavy-fermion compound CeRu2Si2, and its non-magnetic analog LaRu2Si2, have been measured in the temperature range 1.5-100 K. The electronic part of the thermal expansion of CeRu2Si2 yields two distinct anomalies : (1) a large positive contribution, caused by the (antiferro)magnetic interactions of the f-moments, centered at 9 K, and (2) a negative crystal-field contribution in the high-temperature regime. The data are compared with existing specific-heat measurements and analysed in terms of Grüneisen parameters. The resulting values for κƉ amount to 150 and -4 Mbar-1 for the spin-fluctuation and crystal-field contribution, respectively.
