Abstract
Alloys of composition YZr3Fe9 and YSc3Fe9 have a Laves-phase structure with Curie temperatures near to 700 K. A new magnetic phase of approximate composition R2Zr3Fe21 forms for the entire rare earth series, with Curie temperatures ranging from 551 K for R = Ce to 683 K for R = Gd. The iron moment is in the range 1.3 - 1.5 µB.
