Abstract
The influence of transition-metal substitution on copper oxide superconductors is presented. Insufficiency of classical BCS-like models is pointed out. Following Chakraverty, the unconventional superconductivity resembling the Bose-Einstein condensation of localized (hole) pairs is considered. This model is able to explain, at least qualitatively, the main properties of the YBa2 (Cu1-xMx)3 O7-y compounds (M-transition metal).
