Abstract
In order to be able to measure Raman spectra of gases with a resolution of 0.01 cm-1 a Michelson interferometer with maximum optical path difference of 1 m and a beam diameter of 16 cm has been constructed. The intensity and the width of the Raman lines are dependent of the intensity and spectral width of the excitation radiation. Aiming at high resolution Raman spectra the obvious choice of the excitation source is a single moded Ar-Ion laser operating at 488 nm.
