Abstract
Particle erosion experiments were performed on titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) samples superficially treated by Laser. Laser heat treatments were applied and tested (by comparison with conventional heat treatments). Nitried, carburized and boronitrided coatings were thus obtained and studied by metallography, Scanning Electron Microscopy (S.E.M.), microhardness and roughness measurements. Topographic features and damage mechanisms associated with erosive-particle impact craters were described for each treatment when erosion rates were evaluated by measuring the weight loss produced by the erosion test.
