Abstract
This paper presents the state of development at PECHINEY in terms of property goals (replacement of existing alloys) and product forms. The main areas of research in progress, achievements and prospects regarding commercialization are given. Typical values measured on sheets, extrusions, forgings and tubes are given, together with engineering properties. Most results relate to damage tolerance and medium strength types of replacement. They are all based on industrial production. Progress regarding the other product forms, mainly the thicker ones, and regarding higher strength alloys will also be outlined.
