COMPUTER SIMULATION OF FIELD-ION IMAGES OF QUASICRYSTALS

Abstract
Field-ion (FI) images of the Al-Mn quasicrystals were calculated using the three-dimensional Penrose tiling. The resulting images have a perfect icosahedral symmetry and show ring structures around some symmetry poles. FI images of two structural models were obtained and compared with the observed FI images of the Al-Mn quasicrystals.
