Abstract
Strength and toughness of Al2O3 based ceramics were improved by dispersing ZrO2 (Y2O3) and nonoxide materials such as SiC, TiC, TiN and B4C. Significant toughening and hardening were attained in Al2O3-ZrO2-SiC and Al2O3-ZrO2-TiC composites.
