Abstract
A scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) has been used to obtain microdiffraction patterns from small volumes (3 - 650 nm3) of a-Ge. These are recorded on new high-resolution, high-efficiency instrumentation. It appears as if the reciprocal space of even comparatively large volumes (30 thousand atoms) contains statistically significant, spherically anisotropic fluctuations.
