Abstract
Hydrogen charging induces the formation of an hcp phase, ε- and α'- martensites in a metastable austenitic stainless steel, and the formation of microtwins and a braid-like dislocation structure in a ferritic stainless steel. Microcracks are initiated along α' lath boundaries and ε/α' boundaries in the former, and inside of microtwins in the latter.
