ASYMPTOTIC FREEDOM IN FIELD THEORY

Abstract
This brief report describes some recent work on the renormalization group, with particular emphasis on the discovery of Politzer (2) and Gross and Wilczek (3, 4) that gauge theories are asymptotically free . Professors Gatto and Weinberg have included some general observations on this subject in their reports to this Conference, so I will concentrate on some of the technical details.
