Abstract

Abstract
The atomic structures of Σ = 5 (θ = 36.9°) [001] tilt boundaries in Au have been investigated by high resolution electron microscopy (HREM). Unique grain boundary atomic structures were observed for (310) and (210) symmetric and (430)//(100) asymmetric inclinations. Volume expansions and grain boundary energy measurements are presented, and results compared to various computational results.
