Abstract
Adiabatic potential energy curves have been calculated as a function of electric field strength for the ground state and an excited state of helium adsorbed on tungsten. Using a unitary transformation we construct the diabatic energy curves for neutral helium and its singly charged ion. We also obtained the coupling term between these states from which we calculate the temperature dependent ionisation probability of an adsorbed atom and the resulting ion yield.
