MÖSSBAUER RELAXATION MEASUREMENTS ON Yb IN LaBel3 : INFLUENCE OF KONDO EFFECT AND SUPERCONDUCTIVITY

Abstract
Low temperature Mössbauer measurements are reported on 170Yb in LaBe13. Paramagnetic relaxation of Yb3+ was analysed and interpreted in terms of a Kondo behaviour of Yb3+. A superconducting transition was found at Tc~ 0.27 K ; the Yb3+ relaxation rate well below Tc is strongly reduced due to Cooper pairing of conduction electrons.
