Abstract
The magnetic anisotropy of Lu (Co1-xFex)4 B is studied at 4.2 K on aligned powder samples. The pure cobalt compound exhibits a planar anisotropy in consistence with recent results for YCo4B. Upon increasing iron content, the first anisotropy constant passes through a broad minimum and changes sign around x = 0.8. This behaviour can be understood in terms of preferential occupations and the individual site contributions of the two different 3d sites to the resultant anisotropy.
