Abstract
The recent progress in the Auger electron spectroscopy of free atoms is discussed. High resolution spectra of open shell atoms from high temperature vapours have become experimentally available, and thus offer an elegant method to test the latest theoretical MCDF models. Satellite structure accompaning the main lines displays the many electron effects, and their analysis can be used to study electron correlation phenomena. Improved possibilities to use synchrotron radiation for selective excitation of normal and resonance. Auger spectra can be used as probes for the electronic structure and as a further test of theoretical development.
