Abstract
The attenuation coefficient of surface acoustic waves SAW propagating through thin superconducting films of Nb3Sn, Nb3Ge, granular Al, granular Pb and NbN has been measured at frequencies up to 2 GHz. In Nb3Sn, Nb3Ge and granular Al the attenuation is produced by electron phonon interaction. In the granular Pb film and NbN film the SAW attenuation is produced by piezoelectric coupling to the sheet resistivity of the film. Theoretical models for interpreting the data are presented and some of the results obtained from the analysis are discussed.
