Abstract
The two-photon excitation spectrum of anthracene in the region of the two lowest transitions has been measured both in solution and in Shpol ski i matrix. The main features of the spectrum are discussed in terms of perturbative effects such as the inductive effect and the vibronic interactions, on the properties of the lowest singlet states.
