DYNAMICS AND THERMODYNAMICS OF A ONE DIMENSIONAL NON-LINEAR LATTICE IN THE CONTINUUM LIMIT

Abstract
The dynamics of a non-linear one dimensional lattice, with the on-site potential V(Φ) = (ξ2/8) Cosn 4Φ - ξ Cosh 2Φ - (ξ2/8) is considered in the continuum limit. Exact classical kink solutions are obtained ; for ξ < 2, in which case the potential has the double well form. The free energy of the system is calculated using the ground state eigen value of the Schrodinger like equation for this potential.
