EFFECT OF NON-MAGNETIC IMPURITIES ON THE RAMAN SCATTERING BY SUPERCONDUCTING GAP EXCITATIONS IN LAYERED COMPOUNDS

Abstract
The effect of small concentrations of substitutional non-magnetic impurities, on the observability of superconducting gap excitations, is considered. It is shown chat the presence of heavy mass impurities tends to increase the strength of the Raman peak due to the gap excitations, while lowering its frequency. On the otherhand the local mode due to light mass impurities splits into two because of its coupling to the gap excitations.
