Abstract
We present new Brillouin scattering measurements, for temperature ranging from 1 K to room temperature in a broad range of insulating solids (crystalline and amorphous solids). We analyse the temperature dependence of the attenuation of longitudinal phonons (frequency higher than 15 GHz) on the basis of the physical processes responsible for the phonon damping.
