Abstract
A narrow investigation of the amplitude dependence on internal friction in high purity iron was conducted. It was found that the activation energy of βα peak is E = 0.28 eV. The possibility that the β1 peak is thermally activated unpinning on string-like dislocations can be ruled out. It is therefore accounted for in terms of thermally activated unpinning phenomenon of geometrical kinks on non-screw dislocations. A big amplitude effect at 4.2 K was also observed.
