Abstract
The existence of a pseudogap in the density of states of expanded liquid mercury is ascertained from first principles. The dispersion of expanded fluid mercury is calculated both by the relativistic KKR method for a muffin - tin system and by an extended Hückel model. The theory due to Mattis and Yonezawa concerning anomalous dispersions and localization is employed to identify the pseudogap or the mobility gap.
