THE INFLUENCE OF TERMINAL SUBSTITUENTS UPON THE NEMATIC-ISOTROPIC TRANSITION TEMPERATURE

Résumé
L'influence des substituants terminaux sur la température de transition nématiqueisotrope (Tc) dans deux séries des composés est étudiée. On trouve que l'anisotropie dans la polarisabilité pour les liaisons différentes CAr-X, où X = F, Me, Cl, etc. donne une relation linéaire avec Tc en accord avec la théorie moléculaire statistique de Maier et Saupe.
Abstract
The influence of terminal substituents upon the nematic-isotropic transition temperature (Tc) within two series of compounds is studied. It is found that the anisotropy in the holarizability for the different CAr-X bonds, where X = F, Me, Cl, etc. shows a linear relationship with Tc in agreement with the molecular statistical theory of Maier and Saupe.
