APPLICATION OF THE SPIN-PHONON SPECTROMETER TO PULSED VERY HIGH FREQUENCY PHONONS
C. H. ANDERSONRCA Laboratories, Princeton, N. J.
Abstract
A detailed description of the spin phonon spectrometer recently published covers the response of paramagnetic spens to steady state distributions of phonons in crystals. Building on these results the response of spins to repeatative pulses of phonons are discussed here, showing that it is also possible to measure the spectral distributions from pulsed sources as well. Separation of the contributions from the different modes is also possible by either changing the magnetic field orientation or by the more conventional time of flight method.
