Abstract
We introduce a model of a thin magnetic film which includes coherent bulk and surface anisotropies as well as an incoherent, random surface anisotropy. A phase diagram showing the stable magnetization states in thickness, surface anisotropy space is presented. Modifications of the diagram due to the random anisotropy are calculated. The case of αFe on GaAs is discussed.
