MULTIFRAGMENTATION OF HOT NUCLEI

Abstract
Highly excited nuclei may disintegrate into many fragments of different sizes. A statistical liquid drop theory for the multifragmentation of finite nuclei is developed. A crack temperature is defined for the threshold of the multifragmentation process. This temperature is much lower than the critical temperature for the liquid-gas phase transition.
